Welcome to the 19th Carnival of GRADual Progress. Many thanks to thefrogprincess for continuing to maintain the carnival and coordinate monthly hosts.
This month's carnival finds grad students in transition. The academic year is over. Some are off to field work, some to summer jobs, and others to the archive or library for ever-more research and writing.
Travel:
Thefrogprincess talks about the nature of advanced research in history--for her, travel is a perk. Dancingfish has also traveled-- from a lonely lab to a hot field site. K8 is settling into a summer retreat at the family lake house. Few distractions, fresh herbs, and some dissertating.
Summer job (somebody's got to pay the bills):
Monsoon details an eventful week-- including starting a new job as a seamstress. Parts-n-pieces also has a new(ish) job-- she's in Florida this week as an AP grader. The History Enthusiast is busy teaching during summer session. Michael takes a minute to reflect on spring semester and to think ahead to summer teaching.
Summer academic life is still academic life:
At The Economical Academic, EcoGeoFemme explains the departmental trauma that arises when the number of TA-ships is less than the number of students wanting/needing/expecting/offered TA-ships.
You can find advice and tales from the crypt (a.k.a. the archive) from supergradstudent.
Health & Phys-ed:
At the Active Academic, Kai shares some of her favorite healthy tips and asks readers for some of their own. ScienceGirl reveals just how much your dentist knows about you based on your ailments.
Good karma:
Let's congratulate Anomie on the dissertation research grant. Also, congrats to Rebecca, who is planning to break some ground in her field.
Send some good wishes to Jennie, who defends her diss on June 27th.
